| The Texas Education
Agency, the State Board of Education, and Harlingen CISD define the
Gifted as: Children and youth with outstanding talent who perform or
show the potential for performing at remarkably high levels of
accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or
environment. These children and youth exhibit high performance capability in intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas, possess an unusual leadership capacity, or excel in specific academic fields. They require educational experiences beyond those normally provided by the regular school program. The Harlingen CISD also recognizes that outstanding talents are present in children and youth from all cultural groups, across all economic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor. The Harlingen CISD identifies and serves elementary students in the area of general intellectual ability. Secondary students are identified and served in the area of specific subject matter aptitude. The mission of the Harlingen CISD Gifted & Talented / Advanced Placement Program is to insure appropriate curriculum modifications for gifted and talented students in order for them to reach their potential as self-confident contributing members of society. |
