| During the fall of
1998 the Board of Trustees established a Gifted & Talented /
Advanced Placement Task Force to advise and to make recommendations to
the Board about the GT/AP program. The task force consisted of
elementary and secondary subcommittees composed of parents, teachers,
principals, community, and board members. During their study, the task
force visited GT/AP programs in other districts and reviewed surveys
completed by students at different grade levels. They formed eight
subcommittees: funding, parent information, personnel, staff
development, student recruitment and retention, scheduling,
recognition, and instruction. The committee recommendations were prioritized into an action plan incorporating ideas from all eight areas of study. We are currently in the process of putting these plans into action. Some of these changes are occurring this year, while others will take more time. It is our goal to have an Exemplary Rating for our GT program within four years. Working together we can make this happen as we continue to improve the programming for our gifted students. *Link to TEA standards for GT Programs http://www.tea.state.tx.us/gted/ *Link to “A Call for Excellence: Raising the Bar for Gifted Students” http://www.tea.state.tx.us/gted/excellencegt.htm |
